Gerald Reginald “Chinker” Jennex - 78, Masstown. It is with deep sadness Gerald’s family announce his sudden passing on Sunday, February 21, 2010, at his home. Born September 4, 1931, in Halifax, he was a son of the late Frank and Gertrude (Mitchell) Jennex.

Gerald served for 28 years with the Royal Canadian Signal Corps of the Canadian Army. He served eight tours with United Nations and one with Nato Forces. He served two years as president of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 72, two terms as Worshipful Master of King George Lodge 123, Debert, along with two terms as President of Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, Atlantic Division.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 39 years, Evelyn (Chaulk); step-daughter, Sally Higgins (Russell Jennings), Crowes Mills; step-son, Lawrence Weatherby, Mississauga, Ontario; step-grandchildren, Terri-Lynn Weatherby, Cindy Spencer-Fagioli, Margo Marie Rogers, all of Truro; five great grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Marion Louise (Thomas) Smith, Hearts Delight, Newfoundland; Shirley Anne Marie Robillard, Woodstock, Ontario; numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Mable; brothers, Kenny, Frankie, Victor, Donald, Arthur, Patrick, Milton and Norman.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Gerald’s family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Friday, February 26, 2010, and Royal Canadian Legion, Debert Branch, will conduct a Legion Tribute Service at 7 pm Friday, February 26, 2010. Funeral service will be held 3 pm Saturday, February 27, 2010, also in Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, Pastor Greg Porter officiating. Spring interment in Masstown Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Gerald’s memory to Truro Heights United Baptist Church or charity of choice are welcomed.
