John Edwin "Jack" Peppard

1940-2010

John Edwin "Jack" Peppard
John Edwin “Jack” Peppard – 70, Londonderry. The passing of John Edwin “Jack” Peppard occurred quietly at his home on Thursday morning, July 15, 2010, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Great Village, he was a son of the late Matthew and Louise (Rose) Peppard. Except for a brief interlude in Ontario, he lived his entire adult life in the Great Village area.

A licensed mechanic and skilled carpenter, Jack worked at Goodspeeds, Truro Machine Works, Texaco, Moffats and for the past 29 years as a snowplow operator. He was a familiar and welcome winter sight, driving the grader along the back roads of Colchester County. Many houses, barns and buildings in Nova Scotia stand as a testament to Jack’s considerable abilities as a carpenter. Community oriented in his own quiet way, Jack was a Past Master of the Corinthian Lodge No. 63, Great Village, former Trustee and Elder of Saint James United Church, Great Village, former member of Great Village Fire Department and a former Scout leader. An avid collector, Jack amassed an eclectic mix of old toys and antique tractors. He was happiest at home, working on his project of the moment, enjoying the outdoors and all life had to offer. Always ready to lend a hand, an ear or a tool, Jack had a special love for young people. He felt it an honour and a responsibility to mentor many young men in the area. Nephews, neighbours and friends…they were all special to him in their own way. He always had room in his heart for one more, as a new generation was just discovering.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marie (Adams); children, Stephanie (Kim) Patriquin, Folly Mountain; Alan (Shelley Tanner), Sandra (Dean) Mushanski, all of Edmonton, Alberta; Anna Peppard (DJay MacIntosh), Truro; grandchildren, Kiersten, Matija, Matthew, Carter, Cole, Bailey, Tessa; siblings, Ken (Dianne), Jim (Blanche), all of Great Village; Marjorie and Ruth, Kinsac; several nieces and nephews. Heartfelt thanks are offered to Dr. Don Rowe, who provided such exceptional medical care. Thank you also to Dr. Curtis, Dr. Morzycki, Dr. Cwajna, Veronica, Jodie and the VON, especially Lynn, Margie and Sheryl.

A reception to celebrate Jack’s life will be held from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, July 25, 2010, at the Londonderry Athletic Hall. If desired, donations in Jack’s memory to Saint James United Church, Great Village or a charity of choice are welcomed.
