Rector, Gail Robina, 70, Salmon River, Colchester County,
affectionately known as Nanny Gail. It is with great sorrow we
announce the passing of mom due to complications following surgery on
Thursday, July 22, 2010, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born
in Milton, Queen’s County, she was a daughter of the late Claude
and Ruth (Rhyno) Martin. Gail moved to Truro at the age of eighteen
where she went to work for Woolworth’s Store, leaving to raise
her family including many foster children. She later went to work for
Stanfield’s Ltd. Mom had a great love for animals and rescued
many. Gail also enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles and gardening.
She is survived by sons, Marty Robbins (Elizabeth), Salmon River, Col. Co.; James Robbins (Dawn), North River; daughters, Anita Wilson (Jack), North River; Laura-Lee Reid (Allen), Truro; grandchildren, Maurice, Ronnie, Corey, Adam, Kyle, Mike, Chris, Haley; great-granddaughter, Aleah; brother, Clyde Martin (Sandra), Milton Queen’s Co.; sister, Mrs. June Hurtle, Liverpool; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Rector; sister, Shirley Laing; special nephew, Brian.
No visitation by family request. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date with Pastor Steve Adams officiating. No flowers by request. Donations in mom’s memory may be made to the Animal Rescue Coalitions, Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Fund. An open reception will take place on Sunday after 3 pm at the home of Marty Robbins, 5 Beverly Avenue, Salmon River.
