Raymond Murray “Ray” Harris - 88, Bible Hill, passed away
Wednesday morning, January 18, 2012, at home. Born March 5, 1923, in
Truro, he was a son of the late John and Sadie (MacGowan) Harris.
Ray was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Truro, worked at Roop’s Cleaners for many years and then independently as a roofer and labourer. He enjoyed playing 45s.
Ray is survived by his children, Raymond Harris (Chris), Donald Harris (Gladys), Diane Duncan (Ray), Linda Lubera, all of Ontario; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Ruby (Wilson) Harris; second wife, Lucy (Illsley) Harris; great grandson, Brent in infancy; several brothers.
Ray’s children would like to extend a special thanks to the VON for their home visits and their deepest appreciation to Debbie for being there for Dad every day. We don’t know what we would have done without you. Also, to the many neighbours and friends who helped Dad out in any way – thank you.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ray’s family will receive friends from 2-4, 7-9 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2012, and where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012, Reverend John Tonks officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Bible Hill Cemetery. Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, will conduct a Legion Tribute Service 7 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2012, at the funeral home. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Ray’s memory to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Building Fund are appreciated.
