Alvin Edgar Sullivan - 87, Elk Court Nursing Home, Brookfield,
formerly of Truro, passed away peacefully Friday, January 27, 2012, at
Elk Court. Born October 19, 1924, in Nuttby, he was a son of the late
Alonzo and Kate (Johnson) Sullivan.
Alvin was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed working as a lumberman, working in the yard and chopping wood. He worked at Brookfield Box Mill and then at Crossley from where he retired after 30+ years of service. He enjoyed collecting model trains and John Deere memorabilia.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife, Lillian Pearl (Hollingsworth); children, Robert (Torry) Sullivan, Springfield, Annapolis County; Barb (Cecil) Legere, Debert; Lois Arsenault (Louise Fitzander), Pereaux, Kings County; grandchildren, Clifford Legere, Halifax; Anthony Legere, Toronto; Amy Sullivan, Bridgewater; Robbie Sullivan, Hammonds Plains; sister, Mable Murray, West Earltown; brother, Reverend John (Lorraine) Sullivan, Truro; step-children, David (Cathy) Van Iderstine, Guelph, Ontario; Wendell (Valerie) Van Iderstine, Beaver Bank; Gail Van Iderstine, Boston; Pat (Doug) Fisher, Bridgewater; Joan (Paul) Campbell, Brookfield; Cathy Tremblay (Tony Clarke), Dartmouth; many step grandchildren, great grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Lloyd, Clarence; step-daughter, Donna Campbell.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Alvin’s family will receive friends from 2-4, 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2012, and where the funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2012, Pastor Greg Porter. Spring interment in Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Upper North River. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Alvin’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
