Williams, Donald Harry 92, Truro, passed away Saturday,
August 15, 2015 in the Mira Long Term Care Facility, Truro. Born in
Mill Village, Hants County, he was a son of the late Wallace and Ruby
(Fisher) Williams. Don was a veteran of the Second World War serving
with the R.C.A.F. He earlier operated M. J. Williams Store on Aberdeen
Street, in Truro’s East End with his wife Margaret, and
later worked for M.P. Crowell Furniture Store. He then went to work
with the Nova Scotia Youth Training Center, Truro for 20 years
retiring in 1987 as a night councilor. Don was very handy with a
hammer and a saw. He loved carpentry work and could build or fix
anything. He was noted for climbing ladders and shingling roofs. He
was a gentle and a loving man, who always would help in any way
possible.
He is survived by a son Donald "Will"
Williams; grandchildren Margaret Blois, Kevin Blois (Tara), Kenda
Blois (Chris), Jennifer McLaughlin (Greg), John Williams (Kate), Cindy
Williams (Brian); great-grandchildren Matthew, Alex, Abby, Ella,
Olivia, Norah, Gracie, Lauren, Sophie; brothers Neil Williams (Elaine)
of Montreal, Jerry Williams of Stewiacke; several nieces and nephews;
sisters-in-law Eva Williams, Marion Williams.
He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years Margaret Jean
Carroll; daughter Carol Ann; brothers Max, Claude, Loran, Harvey;
sister Phyllis; daughter-in-law Jackie.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall~Varner Funeral
Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, from where visitation will take place on
Thursday Aug, 20th from 12:00 to
12:45 pm followed by funeral service at 1:00 pm. Reverend Kaj Binderup
will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial
will take place at a later date in Brookside Cemetery, Mill Village.
Donations in memory may be made to the Colchester Food Bank, Truro.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Mira Long
Term Care Facility, Truro for their care given to Don during his stay.
