Merle Wesley Sullivan– 95, Nuttby, passed away
peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday evening,
August 20, 2015, in Truro. Born November 26, 1919, in Nuttby, he was a
son of the late Everett and Winnifred (Sabean)
Sullivan.
Merle was a member of Nuttby United Baptist Church. An avid
outdoorsman, he enjoyed working in the woods tending to Christmas
trees, logging, maple syrup, farming and carpentry. Merle loved being
on the mountain and enjoyed having a picnic and boiling a pot of tea
on an open fire. He also enjoyed road trips that he took with his
wife, Gladys, and their two dogs, Benji and Cinder, over the years.
Being very social and a great story teller, he enjoyed having company
and highly valued his family and friends.
Merle is survived by his children, Donna MacInnis (Ralph
MacLellan), Truro; Harry (Debbie) Sullivan, Bible Hill; Alan (Janet)
Sullivan, Coldbrook; Brian (Sherry) Sullivan, Nuttby; Brenda (Keith)
Bayers, Musquodoboit Harbour; David (Ginny) Sullivan, Bridgewater;
grandchildren, Laura (David), Angie (Paul), Bradley (Paula), Kim
(Daniel), Nick (Lauren), Steve (Sam), Samantha (Josh), Ryan (Chelsea),
Candace (Branko), Holly (Maurice); several great grandchildren;
nieces, Myrna (Gerry), Cindy (Phil). Along with his parents, he was
predeceased by his wife, Gladys Laura Margaret (Smith); brother,
Gerald (Zita) Sullivan; grandson, Justin Sullivan.
Special thanks are extended to family doctor, Dr. Harold
Berghuis and also Dr. David Henderson, Dr. Cortney Smith and Lisa
Weatherbee for their care and home visits. We would also like to thank
the Palliative Care Team and VON for their exceptional care; Merle
looked forward to your daily visits and sharing his pictures with
you.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Merle’s
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2015,
and funeral service 4 p.m., Sunday, August 23, 2015, Pastor Greg
Porter officiating. Reception will follow. Interment in Aenon Baptist
Cemetery, Central North River. Family flowers only. If so desired,
donations in Merle’s memory to Nuttby United Baptist Church
or Aenon Baptist Cemetery are welcomed. Private messages of condolence
