Wight, Charles Edward, 69, of Bible Hill, passed away
suddenly, on Monday evening, November 9, 2015, in Stewiacke as the
result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in Berwick he was a son of
the late Donald and Isobel (Durling) Wight. After High School in the
Valley, he attended the Nova Scotia Teachers College, and then went to
work as a Child Councilor at the Nova Scotia Youth Training Centre in
Brookside. He then was a Industrial Hardware Salesman with Farming
Equipment for Cameron Equipment. He was a Driver Improvement Officer
for the last 6 years before retirement. He was also a volunteer driver
for the VON taking many people to their appointments. He was a
firefighter and member of the Bible Hill Fire Brigade since 1987 where
he was a Steward, Fire Police, and a recipient of the Firefighter of
the Year Award and also received an award for Volunteer Services. He
was a Commissioner of Oaths, loved to play cards, especially cribbage
and solitaire. Loved scrabble, crossword puzzles, playing guitar,
piano and the organ. He sang with the John Fisher Choir and was a
member of St. David’s United Church, where he was a Choir
Member and on the Board of Stewards. He also belonged to the Antique
Tractor Club. He is survived by his wife the former Anne Peterson;
daughters, Leanne Alexander, Debert, Heather Gillis (Paul), Bible
Hill, and Dawna Wight, Waterville; grandchildren, Marlee, Georja,
Shawnn; step-sisters, Ethel Beers (Rev. John), New Minas, Audrey Evans
(Derek), Edmonton, Shirley Simmonds, Charlottetown, Cora Aulenbach,
Bridgewater, Grace Gillighan, Harbourville; step-brothers, Les Harlow
(Emma), Halifax, Stephen Harlow (Robyn), Lawrencetown; brother-in-law,
Brian Peterson (Linda), Riverview, NB; many aunts, uncles, nieces and
nephews; his furry dog, Xena, who will miss her daily walks with
Charles. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his step-mother,
Joyce; brothers, Robert and Andrew; sister, Janet; son-in-law, Shawn
Alexander. Visitation will be held 2 – 4 pm and 7
– 9 pm , Thursday, November 12, in the Mattatall ~ Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. A fireman’s Tribute
Service conducted by the Bible Hill Fire Brigade will be held 6:30pm
Thursday, November 12 as well in the funeral home. Funeral service
will be held 2 pm Friday, November 13, in St. David’s United
Church in Bible Hill, Rev. Donna Lawrence officiating, with interment
to follow in the Bible Hill Cemetery. A reception will then be held in
the Bible Hill Fire Hall. Family flowers only. Donations in
Charles’ memory may be made to St. David’s United
Church, the Bible Hill Fire Brigade, VON, or Kings Regional
