Joan Marie Anthony - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother on Tuesday, November 17, 2015, just short of her 93rd birthday. Born in Halifax on January 3, 1923, she was a daughter of Jeanette and John (Jack) MacDonald, of Kentville.

Raised in Kentville, she attended school there, as well as Sacred Heart Convent School in Meteghan before graduating from Mack Business School in Kentville. Following her marriage, she lived in Rockingham and later Bedford where she lived for over forty five years. She was active in both communities and enjoyed volunteering with many groups and organizations including Brownie and Girl Guide Leader, Canadian Cancer Society, Garden Club, and C.W.L. She served on Halifax County Bedford District School Board. Her many interests included painting, music, politics and was an avid bridge player. She had a great love for her family and friends and will be dearly missed.

She was predeceased by husband, Frederick Edson "Ed"; daughter, Judy (Woodley); sisters, Jeanette Christie, Joyce, who died in infancy; granddaughter, Rachel Curry; son-in-law, John Lightfoot.

She is survived by her son, Fred; daughters, Joyce (Lightfoot), Jayne (Curry), Joanie Anthony; sons-in-law, Michael, Reed and Clary; eight grandchildren, Cale, Caitlan, Anna, Jenny, Maggie, Matthew, David, Dan.; six great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2015, at St Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 1288 Bedford Highway, Bedford, Father Patrick Cosgrove officiating. Internment in Brookside Cemetery, Bedford.

Our most sincere thanks go out to the staff of Shannex Cedarstone, in Truro, where she was treated with love and compassion. We are very grateful for the care she received.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to charity of choice.
