Watson, Gerald Leslie "Gerry", 75, of Truro
Heights, Col. Co., passed away Sunday, January 17, 2016 in the
Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, surrounded by his family.
Born in Truro, Gerry was the eldest child of the late Dan and Frances
(Gault) Watson. Gerry spent many years in the Canadian Armed
Forces stationed in many areas in Canada and also served in the Middle
East. After retiring to Truro Heights, he was employed as Security at
the Fundy Trail Mall, Truro. Gerry was a member of the Truro Heights
United Baptist Church, Truro Heights and a volunteer with the Canadian
Red Cross, Truro Depot. He was a member and President of the Truro
Amateur Radio Club, Truro and also held the amateur radio callsign
VE1GLW. He was a past member of the Cobequid District Fire Brigade,
and a former softball coach. He will be sorely missed by his companion
and best friend Sophie (his Sheltie). Gerry was well known in the
community by young and old and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years the former Carol Ann
(Tree) Watson; sons Carrol, at home, Thomas of Winnipeg; daughters,
Rose of Ottawa, Shannon Dawn (Dwight Russ) of Truro, Nicole Marie
(Greg) Fleetwood of Winnipeg; grandchildren, Noah, Evan, Keely,
Colman; brothers, Donald (Barb) of Upper Musquodoboit, Wade (Cindy) of
Bedford; sisters, Shirley Myers of Sheet Harbour, Carolyn Farris
(Billy) of Sheet Harbour, Edith Castle of Drumheller, AB, Darlene
Castle (Phillip) of New Glasgow, Christine Watson (Kim) of Liverpool;
several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Gerry was predeceased by a brother
James; sister Sylvia.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall~Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. No visitation by family request.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan.
22nd at 2:00 pm in the Truro Heights United
Baptist Church, 343 Truro Heights Road, Truro Heights. Reverend Connie
Stewart will officiate with a reception to follow in the fellowship
hall. Family flowers only. Donations in Gerry’s memory may
be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Canadian Cancer
