Helene Mae (Downing) Cook – 88, Bible
Hill, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on
Saturday, April 2, 2016, at The Mira Long Term Care Facility, Truro.
Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Minnie Langille and
step-daughter of the late John Moore.
Helene was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. In earlier
years, she worked as head cashier at Save Easy, head cook at
Fletcher’s and then looked after her family and home full
time. She enjoyed reading, dancing, playing games, crossword puzzles
and Bingo.
Helene is survived by her children, Gail Downing, Orono,
Ontario; Valerie (Kenneth) Morrisey, Onslow Mountain; Ronald
(Katherine) Downing, Bible Hill; Margaret (Ted) Shearer, Belmont;
Gregory (Kathy) Downing, Pugwash; Lynn (Gary) Ehler, Hilden; Ann
(Bruce) Fiddes, Lower Onslow; Cindy (Kenzie) Dawson, Ottawa, Ontario;
Kathy Downing, Lower Onslow; grandchildren, Sherry, Donna, Helene
(Richard), Krista (Bradley), Shelly (Parker), Peter (Kim), Natalie,
Lori-Ann (Cory), June (Andrew), Jonathan, Justin, Jason, Felicia,
Marcus (Andrea), Andrew, Allan, Joanna, Kaitlyn, MacKenzie, Hunter,
Rhianon, Tatum; great grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Melissa, Josh,
Tyler, Rachael, Felicia, Victoria, Morgan, Emily, Rachael, Rylie,
Emma, Aidan, Alden, Ruby, Dylan, Gracie, Nevaeh; siblings, Evelyn
(Ernest) Campbell, New Annan; Brenda (Raymond) Tynes, Truro; Robert
(Judy) Moore, Onslow; Bill (Joy) Moore, Brantford, Ontario; Carl
Moore, Salmon River; several nieces and nephews. Along with her mother
and step-father, she was predeceased by her first husband, Francis
Downing; second husband, L. Bernard Cook; brother, Donald; grandson,
Kevin; son-in-law, Kimball. Special thanks are extended to the staff
of The Mira (Lavender Lane), especially, Tena Mosher for her love and
care to our Mother and her family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service
will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2016, Pastor Glenn Ronson
officiating. Interment in Belmont Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so
desired, donations in Helene’s memory to SPCA or Alzheimer
