MacDonald, John William "Jack", 92, Truro, passed away Saturday May 7, 2016 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Oscar and Bertha (Logan) MacDonald. After serving in the Merchant Navy and the R.C.A.F. as a wireless operator, he completed his electrical engineering degree at Nova Scotia Tech, and worked in the pioneering years of computer software development in Montreal. He retired back to his beloved hometown of Truro in 1988 and kept himself busy with playing bridge, pool at Dooley’s, wine tasting, and his property in Camden where he fed the chipmunks, chickadees, and the fish in his pond. He was an avid, although often unsuccessful deer hunter in Camden, where he also planted trees from seeds and where he tended to his garden.

He will be sadly missed by his family and friends for his great sense of humour and his love of cooking and of life.

He is survived by sons Jon (Theresa) of New Glasgow, Michael (Sandra) of Toronto, David of Toronto, Christopher (Kathleen) of Toronto; grandchildren, Ryan, Julia, Claire, Madeline, and Leah; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Shirley Kennedy; second wife Rita Parker; brothers Milton and Logan; sister Helen; daughter-in-law Jacqueline McClintock.

A celebration of Jack’s life will commence at 2 pm Thursday in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, followed by visitation and reception until 4 pm. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Jack’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
