Butters, (Yohnke) June Kathleen, "Truro"; June passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, Nova Scotia. She had previously lived in Dartmouth and Maitland, Hants Co. Born in Toledo, Ohio, she moved with her family as a child, to Canada. June was the eldest child of the late Carl and Mary (Rayner) Yohnke. She was the last surviving member of her generation; having been predeceased by her husband, John (Jack); her brothers, Everett, Carl, and Nelson; and her sisters, Kathleen and Phyllis and all her husband’s four siblings. She is survived by her son, John (Carolyn Addington) Butters, Oromocto, NB; and her daughter, Mary-June (Butters) Ferris (James), Truro, NS. Five grandchildren, John, Christa, Kelley (Michael Croft), Kimberley (Jason Myers), and Kristen (Robert Stephens), as well as 10 great-grandchildren. June was a Grace Grad and proud to have been an obstetrical nurse for many years at the Grace Hospital in Halifax. After retiring, she had worked for two doctors in Maitland, Hants Co. She was an active member in both the Eastern Star and the Ladies’ Engineers, holding many offices in both. June was active within the Anglican Church wherever she lived, taking on various activities; ACW, singing in choirs, and generally being available to lend a hand wherever needed. She also did many different crafts throughout her life. One of June’s greatest joys was driving across the United States to Arizona and then on to Washington State and up into Canada with her daughter and son-in-law when she was 85 years old. The family would like to thank Drs. Shen and Smith, the nurses on D3 as well as a very special thank you to the wonderful and kind nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit on E3. There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Family flowers only, please. Donations may be made, in memory, to a charity of one’s choice.
