Douglas Lloyd "Doug"
MacKenzie – 97, Truro,
passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday
morning, June 7, 2016, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Granville and Florence
(Strople) MacKenzie.
Doug was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church,
Truro, and was a veteran of the Second World War. He owned and
operated his own garage for 45 years and was known as "The Jeep
Man of East Prince Street". He was a Charter and Honourary Member
of Salmon River Fire Brigade and also started as a timer at Truro
Raceway and then was the Presiding Judge for 25 years.
Doug is survived by his daughter, Laura Jean Yorke, Chester;
son, Leslie (Heather) MacKenzie, Salmon River; grandchildren, James
Yorke, Lisa (Yorke) Tremblay, Peter (Lesley) Yorke, Joanna MacKenzie,
Craig MacKenzie; great grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexandre, Emelie and
Jonathan Tremblay and Matthew, Michael and Anna Yorke. Along with his
parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Florence Ellen (Lynds);
brothers, Donald, Earl, Russell; son-in-law, Harry
Yorke.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where a
Firefighter’s Tribute Service will be held at 1 p.m.,
Friday, June 10, 2016, followed by visitation from 1:30 –
2:15 p.m., and funeral service at 2:30 p.m., The Reverend Lori Ramsey
officiating. Reception will follow. Interment in Crossroads Cemetery,
110 Salmon River Road, Valley. Family flowers only. If so desired,
donations in Doug’s memory to Crossroads Cemetery are
