Lamont, Anna Maria "Annie", age 93, of Truro, passed away peacefully, Monday, June 13, 2016, at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Wijchen, Netherlands, she was a daughter of the late Henricus and Maria (Giesbers) Cuppens. Annie immigrated to Canada in March, 1947, as a War Bride. She operated Lamont’s Nursing Home from 1956 to 1972. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 26, where she was Past President, and also very involved in the "Legion Lyrics". She was a member of the First United Church, Truro, where she was also a member of the UCW. She took great pride in supporting the community, through all of her various volunteer activities. She loved to travel, and during her lifetime she managed to visit forty-two different countries. Annie was active all her life, and up until a week ago, had enjoyed swimming at the pool. She was proud of her Dutch heritage and extremely honoured to be a Canadian. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Annie is survived by her second husband, John Romyn; daughter, Elizabeth "Elly" (Dale) Suttis; sons, James (Pat) Lamont, Harry (Betty) Lamont, Francis (Diane) Lamont, all of Truro; step-daughter, Shirley, PEI; son-in-law, Gary Higgins,Truro; 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren (who affectionately called her Oma); numerous step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, William James Lamont; daughter, Maria Smith-Higgins; brothers, Frans, Harry, and Louie Cuppens; sisters, Helena "Lena" MacDonald and Maria Sillissen; step-children, Lois, Cecil, and Mary; sons-in-law, Harry Suttis and George Smith. There will be no visitation by Annie’s request. A Ladies Auxiliary Tribute Service will be held 3 pm Friday, June 17, 2016 followed by funeral service at 3:30 pm, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, Rev. Donna Lawrence officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Family flowers only. Donations in Annie’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
