James Michael "Mike" Farrell –
84, Truro, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, June 13, 2016,
at The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro. Born in Montague, Prince
Edward Island, he was a son of the late Michael and Annie (Cotter)
Farrell.
Mike was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic
Church. He served with Royal Canadian Air Force for 23 years as a
radio technician and after retirement, worked at Scotsburn Dairy as a
commissionaire. An avid horse racing enthusiast, he owned and trained
race horses; Miramichi Stepper was his first horse.
Mike is survived by his children, Gordon (Jeannette) Farrell,
Prince Edward Island; Bruce (Sharon) Farrell, Truro; Wendy Terry,
Moncton, New Brunswick; Janice Cameron, Bathurst, New Brunswick; Beth
Sleigh, Vancouver, British Columbia; Paul Farrell, Blair (Betty)
Farrell, Truro; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one more
on the way; special "brother", Terry (Judy) Farrell, Truro;
sister-in-law, Millie Farrell, Vancouver, British Columbia;
brother-in-law, Bill Lewis, Ottawa, Ontario; several nieces, nephews
and cousins. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife,
Edwina Anita (Duguid); sisters, Margaret Farrell, Katherine Lewis;
brothers, Terrance (Sybil) Farrell, Norman Farrell.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Mike’s
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2016.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Friday, June 17,
2016, at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince
Street, Truro, Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Interment in
Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 125 Robie Street, Truro. If so
desired, donations in Mike’s memory to St. Vincent de Paul
