Gladys Margaret "Marg" Barnes – 88, Londonderry Station, passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

Marg was loved by many and is survived by her son, Ross and his wife, Sheila, Cornwall, PEI; grandson, Kristopher (Okyup), Cornwall, PEI; granddaughter, Kari, Charlottetown, PEI; great grandson, Kai; many nieces and nephews. She will be missed greatly by her sisters-in-law, Helen (late Osborn) Slack, Eleanor (late Mort) Slack and Joyce (Barnes) (late Everett) Welch. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene; parents, Alvord and Emma (Atkinson) Slack; sister, Annie (Slack) Hamilton; brothers, Wylie, Osborn, Luke, Morton "Mort", and Ellis.

Marg was born in Amherst but grew up on Folly Mountain. She and her family lived and worked in Ontario, New Brunswick and PEI before Marg moved back to Nova Scotia in 1985. She obtained her RNA in PEI where she was on staff at the Garden Home in Charlottetown. She was active in the work at First Baptist, Charlottetown, where she was president of the Women’s Missionary Society and Baptist Church Women. She contributed joyously to her community of Londonderry/Londonderry Station as well as the Londonderry Station Community Church, "The Thirsty Church".

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to her dear friends, Winnie, Dennis and Trevor Spencer and family for their caring and loving ways, the home care workers and the VON staff for their service and kindness which allowed her to remain in her home. Also, heartfelt thanks and appreciation to her nieces, Patsy Matheson and Lorna Bowers for their frequent and loving visits, sincere gratitude to Dr. Roya Murray for her years of care and to the doctors and nurses in Emergency and INCU at Colchester East Hants Health Centre.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Marg’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2016, and funeral service 11 a.m., Friday, July 22, 2016, Pastor Melody Patriquin officiating. Reception will follow. Interment in Hillcrest Cemetery, Londonderry. If so desired, donations in Margaret’s memory to Londonderry Station Community Church or Kidney Foundation of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
