Grace Elizabeth "Betty" Lacey –
83, Truro. With sadness, we share the recent passing of Grace
Elizabeth "Betty" Lacey after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Leicester, Cumberland County, Betty lived most of her adult
life in Truro except for a short period in PEI. Betty was the daughter
of the late Fred and Muriel (McElmon) Lowther and was predeceased by
her sister, Gwen, and husband, George.
A staunch Liberal and loyal Blue Jay fan, Betty was always
willing to help a stranger, friend or neighbour in need. When not
tending to her gardens, she was working at Robertson’s
Candy, throwing strikes at a bowling alley and most recently walking
the track at the RECC before coffee at Tim’s. No one loved a
good laugh or joke more than Betty. Known to many as the lady selling
tickets at the Stadium, Betty never missed a Bearcat game and enjoyed
sitting with her pals behind the Bearcat bench at the RECC. The
Bearcats #1 fan, Betty would often be heard "encouraging"
the team to stop shooting the puck directly at the
goalie.
Betty leaves behind her brother, Winston "Red"
(Pat) Lowther; sister, Marion (Earl) Thomas; many nieces and nephews;
son, Robert (Bob); daughters, Linda (Danny) MacDonald and their
children, David, Elizabeth and Margaret; great granddaughter Isla;
Gwenda Beaton and her children, Victoria and Clifford; Joanne (Tim
O’Brien) and their children, Rachel and Mary; Jackie (Dwayne
Boudreau) and their children, Clare and Fintan.
Friends are welcome to sign Betty’s memorial book
at Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
