Johnston, Roberta, 91, of Antigonish, and formerly of Great
Village, passed away Friday, August 12, 2016 at the R. K. MacDonald
Guest Home, Antigonish. Born in Great Village, she was the youngest
daughter of the late Edward and Catherine (Hunt) Johnston. Roberta
left Great Village to work in Truro, later in Ontario and spent the
bulk of her working life in New York City. She lived in the
Borough of Flushing and traveled daily by train to Lower Manhattan.
Roberta was known for her compassion for others, a strong work ethic
and her flare for style.
She is survived by a sister Geraldine Greenwood of Hamilton,
ON.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister
Madeline; brothers Francis "Frank", Alexander
"Sandy", Artemus "Art", Walter and
J. Wilbur Johnston.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall~Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, from where visitation will take
place on Monday, August 15th from
1:00 pm until funeral service time at 2:00 pm. Reverend Carolyn
Rushton will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Belmont Cemetery, Belmont. Family flowers only.
Donations in memory may be made to a charity of choice. Thank you to
her special friend Walter for his support over the past 10 years of
her life. Also to her "buddies" Sheila and Bonnie
for always being there, especially when she was in need, and also to
Rose and Debbie for their friendship. Thank you to the
management and staff at the RK McDonald Guest Home for making
