Gloria Jean Smith – 70, Central Onslow,
passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at home. Born in Truro, she
was the daughter of the late Carl and Jean (Crowe)
King.
In earlier years, Gloria was a school teacher in East Hants
and River Hebert. She was a life-time member of Trinity United Church
where she was a CGIT leader for many years, member of the UCW and was
the social co-ordinator. She was involved with the MS Society for many
years, vice president of Onslow Island Cemetery Corporation and was a
great supporter of many older members of the community.
Gloria is survived by her daughter, Tracy (Mike); son, Kirby,
Central Onslow; grandchildren, Brianna and Emily; brother, Carman
(Louise), Halifax; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents,
she was predeceased by her husband, Jamie, whom she cared for many
years; granddaughter, Alyssa.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Gloria’s
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, November 17,
2016. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, November 18, 2016,
at Trinity United Church, 415 Onslow Road, Upper Onslow, Reverend
Glenn MacLean officiating. Interment in Onslow Island Cemetery. If so
desired, donations in Gloria’s memory to IWK Health Centre
Foundation or Onslow Island Cemetery are welcomed. Private messages of
