Douglas Alexander "Doug" Faulkner
– 78, North River, passed away peacefully on Friday,
December 23, 2016, at home. Born in Clifton, he was a son of the late
Alexander and Edith (Wright) Faulkner.
Doug was a well-known and familiar face around
Truro as he was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church and a
member of the Disabled Consumers Society of Colchester. He was
artistic and creative and enjoyed drawing, writing poetry and crafting
model ships.
Doug was the last surviving member of his
immediate family and is survived by his sisters-in-law, Marilla
"Rilla" Faulkner, Nine Mile River; Marion Faulkner, Upper
Nine Mile River; nieces and nephews, Ruth, Chris, Paul, Cathy, Alan,
Jane, Sandy "Alex", Irene, Susan, Darrell, Robbie, Stephen,
Nancy, Rodney, Dale, Joan; several great nieces, great nephews and a
wide circle of friends. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by
his siblings, Gordon (Harriet) Faulkner, Bertha (Guy) Beaver, Ralph
Faulkner, Richmond Faulkner.
Special thanks are extended to Peggy Blair and
her husband Gordon, and their children Jamie, Randi, and Suzanne who
Doug lived with for many years. You were Doug’s second
family and he loved all of you so much. He enjoyed watching the kids
grow and being a part of your lives. It has been a great comfort to us
to know that he was so happy, well cared for and loved.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall -
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where visitation will be
held 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2017. Funeral service will be
held 11 a.m., Thursday, January 5, 2017, at St. John’s
Anglican Church, 23 Church Street, Truro, the Reverend Lori Ramsey
officiating. Reception will follow in Kaulback Hall. Spring interment
in Old Barns Cemetery. If so desired, please make donations to Camp
Tidnish – a camp that had a very special place in Doug's
life. (Make cheque payable to Easter Seals Nova Scotia and put
