Elizabeth Amelia (McCallum)
McIntyre – 95, Bible
Hill. After a well-lived life and suffering a stroke, Elizabeth took
her last breath, in the presence of her son, at 2:10 p.m., Saturday,
February 18, 2017, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born
in Onslow Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Lishman and Mary
(Higgins) McCallum.
In 1941 she married Norman Hoar and in 1952 he succumbed to
cancer, leaving her with four young children: Doris, Norma, Allan and
David. In 1956, she married Daniel McIntyre, a military man, with
Michael being born in 1958. In 1957, Elizabeth moved away, living in
Oromocto, Germany, Shilo, Moncton and in 1992 she returned to Bible
Hill after Dan passed away. Elizabeth remained healthy and active for
more than 24 years with most of her travels about being with family,
her dominant focus in life. Mom, Nanny, Elizabeth was the anchor and
pivot point of our family. We will honour her memory best if we can
flourish in making our ties stronger, given that she has created the
atmosphere of belonging and caring for us to build on.
Elizabeth was affiliated with Royal Canadian Legion and
participated in the Widows and Widowers Association, St.
David’s United Church and UCW. As well as being a jump to it
and get it done person, she always enjoyed dancing well into her later
years. She was a quilter, making many for family through the years and
connecting with other quilters. Being a person who would try new
things and have fun with it, she willingly participated in all games
that were part of any family bonding event. Even after recently
breaking her elbow, she enjoyed playing Scrabble with her daughter,
Norma.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Norma Maruda, Allan
Hoar (Sylvie), David Hoar (Sharon), Michael McIntyre; sister, Olive
Ettinger; son-in-law, Gene Lister; 12 grandchildren; 18 great
grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, and was connected to all
of them. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter,
Doris Lister; sister, Lolita Sanderson; brothers, Russell, Arnold,
Jordie, Charlie, Earl and Kenneth McCallum.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, February 24,
2017, at St. David’s United Church, corner of Pictou Road
and St. David’s Avenue, Bible Hill, Reverend Donna Lawrence
officiating. Reception will follow in St. David’s Hall.
