Hugh Ross Cruickshank - 80, Truro, passed away
Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Vimy Court, Bible Hill. Born in
Lansdowne, Pictou County, he was a son of the late Harold and
Catherine (Pushie) Cruickshank.
Hugh moved to Truro in the 1960s and while working at Truro
Daily News, met his future wife, Betty, who would be his partner for
49 years until her death in 2015. Hugh worked at a variety of jobs
over the years from taxi driver, pizza delivery, carpet cleaning and
service station attendant, but his main career was spent as a printer,
retiring in 1996 from Queens Printer at the NSAC. He was very active
in the congregation of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church,
serving as an elder, Clerk of Session and singing in the choir. He had
been involved over the years in Boy Scouts, The Colchester Highland
Dance Association and Colchester Arthritis Society. He enjoyed playing
Auction 45s with Marilyn, Allan, Albert, Anne and Ron.
Hugh is survived by his daughters, Margaret (Richard) Groves
and children, Rachel and Maya, Enfield; Debbie (Jamie) Bernard and
children, Mitchell (fiancée, Brianna MacKay) and Hillary,
Long River, Prince Edward Island; sister-in-law, Isabel Cruickshank,
Bible Hill. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife,
Betty (Maxwell); brother, William; sister, Ellen (James) Worthylake.
The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Vimy
Court for their compassionate care of Dad.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Hugh’s family
will receive friends from 12:45 – 1:45 p.m., Saturday, March
4, 2017, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., Reverend Dr. David
Sutherland officiating. Reception will follow. If so desired,
donations in Hugh’s honour to St. Paul’s
Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice are welcomed. Private
