Smith, Barbara Ann (nee
Duffy/MacNee), age 80, of Brookfield, passed
away peacefully, Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Colchester East
Hants Health Centre Truro. Born in London, England, December 31, 1936,
she was the daughter of the late Amy MacNee (Fisher), and David Duffy.
Step-daughter of the late Colin MacNee. Barbara arrived in Canada,
August 16, 1946 as a 9 year old girl and started on a new adventure in
this country. She was a person who was always willing to help others
in doing so she became a Personal Care Worker which she did for a
great portion of her life. Her last place of employment was at
Hillcrest Manor in Truro of which she retired. Barbara still wanted to
help others, and went on to become a volunteer at the old Colchester
Regional Hospital working in bereavement. Barbara is survived and will
be missed by daughters, Barb Gero, Brookfield, Colleen Tomecki (Mark)
Australia; brother, John Duffy (Chris) Winnipeg; grandchildren, Shawn
Hallihan (Nellie), Brookfield, Joshua Rodler (Kim), Belmont, Jaquinn
Allison (Robert), Truro, Hazen Hutchinson, Brookfield, Devin
Schoenermarck, Stewiacke, Justin Schoenermarck (Arianna), CFB
Petawawa, ON, Kyle Schoenermarck, Digby, Colby Gero, Carson Gero, and
Carter Gero, Brookfield. Great-grandchildren, Sam Jackson, Tara Hunt,
Jessica Hunt, Dylan Allison, Maci Rodler, Wyatt Rodler, Nathanial
Schoenermarck, Kingston Schoenermarck. She was predeceased by her
husband of 56 years, Herman Smith; son, Quinn Smith; sisters, Blanche
Duffy, Sylvia Fulligar, and Marlene Evans. Visitation will be held
12:45 pm ~ 1:45 pm, followed by funeral service at 2 pm Thursday,
March 2, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street
Truro with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Reception to follow.
Interment to be held at a later date in the Brookfield Westside
Cemetery, in Brookfield. Family flowers only. Donations in
Barbara’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of NS.
