Katherine Virginia "Dolly"
(Bartlett) Veniott – 76, Truro, passed
away peacefully on Friday morning, March 3, 2017, at Cedarstone
Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late
Earl Harvey and Margaret "Minnie" (Robson)
Bartlett.
Prior to her illness, Dolly had a never ending passion for
country music, participating in jam sessions, and attending dances,
parties and family gatherings. She was an avid bingo player and took
particular pleasure in traveling to various bingo halls with her
sisters, other family members and friends. While residing at the
family home in Brookside, she enjoyed tending to her flower and
vegetable gardens, as well as caring for her house pets and farm
animals.
Dolly made many friends over the years through her many
activities, told numerous stories and had a great sense of humor. She
was always willing to do anything for anybody and gave generously and
graciously of her time. She was a former employee of
Stanfield’s Ltd. and Weir’s Nursing Home where she
met many people and made everlasting and lifetime
friendships.
Dolly is survived by her children, Harvey (Kathy), Brenda
(Steve) Jennings, Mike (Peggy), Kevin (Helen), Jimmy (Loretta),
Darrell; grandchildren, Chris, Ashley, Tammy, Calvin, Peter, Shane,
Karla, Shawn, several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by
June Cox, Helen (Bill) Sandeson, Marjorie (Darrell) Sandeson, Vonnie
(Hollis) Carter, Kenneth (Gloria), Gilbert, Ben (Viola), Bobby, Donnie
(Minnie), as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with her
parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Arthur; sisters, Gail
Bartlett, Shirley Bartlett (Bond); brother-in-law, Murray Cox. Her
grandchildren were her pride and joy and spending time with them
brought her a great deal of satisfaction and enjoyment. She was always
willing to transport them to their many after-school activities and
enjoyed watching them participate. She also had a special bond with
her nieces and nephews and took great pleasure in being involved in
their activities and went above and beyond in her role as grandmother
and aunt.
Special thanks to Dolly’s brother, Gilbert, for his
love and kindness in taking her into his home during the early years
of her illness and caring for her with support from the VON home care
workers to which thanks are also extended. The family also wishes to
extend their sincere gratitude to the caregivers of Cedarstone for
their compassion and care in making Dolly feel at home and looking
after her many needs to make her as comfortable as
possible.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Dolly’s family
will receive friends from 1:30-2:45 p.m., Saturday, March 11, 2017,
followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m., Reverend Mary White
officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Crossroads
Cemetery, Valley. If so desired, donations in Dolly’s memory
to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice are
