Eunice Blanche (McNutt) Higgins – 96, Truro. Buddy (Reginald Jr. and Ann), Dawn (Gina and Pete Netherway) and Jim wished their Mom "Bon Voyage" on Friday, April 28, 2017, as she left for her biggest family reunion. Her husband, Reg, waited to greet her, along with her mother and father, Blanche (Reid) and James McNutt; brother, Russell; sisters, Helen and Gladys; youngest brother, James Jr.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Georgina and Muir Higgins and other family members and friends.

Mom was born in Brookside, Colchester County, and grew up in Truro and surrounding area (with a brief time spent in Boston, Massachusetts) and was a member of First Baptist Church. She dated and later married Reg on August 17, 1941, and prior to beginning her family, she was employed with Lewis Hat Company as a bookkeeper/secretary. She held a number of office positions, retiring from Farm Loan Board at Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1975.

Mom dedicated herself to home and family. Many pleasurable years were spent at the family cottage at Amet Beach, a retreat she enjoyed until the end. She and Reg played bridge and bowled together until Dad’s passing. They were beautiful to watch on the dance floor! Mom continued to bowl for pleasure and comradery as health permitted. She was an incredible friend and spent many hours looking after ailing friends and family; she was always as close as a phone call to run errands and assist any way she could. Mom had one huge fault; she always found it difficult to accept help (always giving but rarely accepting). Although she appeared very quiet, Mom was a very strong person and incredibly independent; she had a wonderfully warm heart but was also easily hurt. Her independence was extremely important to her and she never wanted to be a bother to anyone!

Her grandchildren, Troy (Wendy) Higgins, Tracy Higgins, Tobi (Monty) Netherway, Mason, Chad Netherway, Drew (Heather) Higgins, Courtney Higgins, Nick (Sarah) Robichaud, and her great grandchildren, Ashley and Ryan Higgins, Tacoma Higgins Grant, Chevelle Mahar, Jayden Higgins, Jaida Higgins and Kodi Mason are sad to see her leave, but understand that she loved them all unconditionally and that they’ll all meet again.

All are welcome to attend a graveside interment service that will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, August 20, 2017, at Watson Cemetery, across from 1908 Prince Street, Truro. If so desired, donations in Eunice’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Eunice’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com

Mom, you were the best Mom ever; an incredibly selfless and loving person.

We’re so blessed to have had you in our lives.

We love you. Call us when you get there. Goodbye.
