Beverly Anne
(Wournell) Matheson –
78, Lower Sackville, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017, at Northwood
Ivany Place, Bedford.
Born in Halifax to
the late Archibald and Grace (Rose) Wournell, Beverly was an active
member of the United Church and attended Knox United Church, Lower
Sackville, since 1969. She was a life member of the UCW, taught Sunday
school, CGIT leader (St. James Church, Dartmouth), Girl Guide leader
(Ramstien, Germany), and a member of the Interchurch Council of
Halifax. She received a volunteer award from Lt. Governor
James McKinley for her work with the Heart and Stroke
Foundation.
As a young girl,
her happiest years were spent in Hortonville, Kings County, on the
family farm. She later enjoyed time spent with family, especially her
much loved grandchildren, at her Lower Sackville home and family
cottage in Glengarry, Pictou County. Beverly was a loving and
caring person who will be greatly missed.
Beverly is survived
by her loving husband of 56 years, Albert Franklin
"Al" Matheson; daughter, Joanne (Geir-Atle)
Matheson-Søvik, Bedford; son, Steven (Judith), Eastern
Passage; grandchildren, Kathleen, Sarah, Paxton; several nieces and
nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters,
Marjorie, Ramona; brother, Robert
"Bob". Special thanks to the wonderful
staff at Northwood Ivany Place for providing compassionate and
dignified care in her final
years.
Funeral service
will be held 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, 2017, in Knox United Church,
567 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville, Rev. Dr. Ross Bartlett
officiating. Reception will follow in the church
hall. Interment will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2017,
in Lorne Cemetery, Pictou County. Family flowers
only. If so desired, donations in Beverly’s memory
to Knox United Church are
welcomed.
