Jennex, Evelyn Clarice Lydia (Chaulk), 92, Debert and
formerly of Masstown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 1, 2017
in Debert Court, Debert, with her daughter at her side. Born in Grand
Falls, NF, she was a daughter of the late James and Sarah (Stacey)
Chaulk. Evelyn worked most of her life as an extremely talented
seamstress, creating amazing garments from wedding gowns to
christening gowns, western suits to beaded dresses for several
celebrities and leather slunk skin jackets for the Queen and Prince
Phillip presented to them by the City of Calgary back in the
1960’s. She worked in several places in Truro and Calgary
Alberta before returning home to Masstown where she worked from her
home. She loved doing needlepoint pictures and quilting and gave most
of her quilts to family and relatives. She donated at least 12 baby
quilts to the I.W.K. Hospital for Sick Children. She took great pride
in her home and her flower gardens. She was a member of the Masstown
United Church and the U.C.W. She loved to sing and listen to music,
especially newfie music and Gospel music. Even when unable to sing,
you would always see her hands going and feet tapping in time to the
music. She enjoyed yard sales and day trips driving with her
girlfriend, Marina Fisher. Because of her kindness, exceptional
talents, loving heart, quick wit and funny stories, she touched the
hearts of many far and near. She will be truly missed by all who knew
and loved her.
She is survived by a daughter Sally Jennings (Russell) of
Crowes Mills; son Lawrence Earl Weatherby (Janet) of Upper Onslow;
granddaughters, Margo Rogers, Cindy Spencer Fagioli, Terri Lynn McNutt
(Troy); step-grandsons Zachary and Abram Higgins; 6
great-grandchildren; sisters Mildred Martin of Corner Brook, NF,
Barbara Weatherby of Shelburne, ON; brother Sherman King of Little
Hearts Ease, NF.
She was predeceased by her husband Gerald Jennex; sister
Marjorie
