Eunice Mildred "Millie" (Pulsifer)
Burrows - Beaver Brook, Colchester Co., died at
Colchester East Hants Heath Centre, Truro, on Wednesday November 1,
2017 at age 96. She was born in Wittenburg, Colchester Co., to the
late James and Miriam (Richardson) Pulsifer.
She
attended Normal College in Truro, and in 1944 came to Beaver Brook to
teach where she met and married Clifford Burrows
in 1945,
and settled on the farm in Beaver Brook. In 1972, after many summer
schools and correspondence courses she got her BA from Mount Allison
University. She taught in Wittenburg, Beaver Brook, Old Barns,
Cobequid Elementary, Central Colchester, and moved to Cobequid
Educational Center when it opened, retiring from teaching in 1983.
After
her teaching career, she started writing local histories: Wittenburg,
Beaver Brook, The Green Oak area, Princeport, Clifton and Old Barns,
and Lower Truro. She also wrote My Pulsifer
Ancestors tracing her family tree. She wrote articles and
letters to the editors which appeared mostly in Nova Scotia
publications. She was an avid flower gardener. Over the years, she had
been involved in Truro United Church Presbytery, CFUW, UCW, book
clubs, study groups and for many years was known as the cookie lady at
ASTE.
She
is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Rev. John A.C. Wilson); sons,
Lorne (Beckie), Jim (Leslie); grandchildren, Andrea, Joel (Brandon),
Hannah, Catherine (Kevin Alexander), Alexander (Lacey O'Toole),
step-granddaughter, Rev. Tara Ann Gourson; step-grandsons,
Darcy (Jennifer) Kerwin, David (Kim) Kerwin; great-grandchildren, Thomas
and Zoe Salter; step-great grandchildren, Charlie and
Luka; daughter-in-law, Mary Martin; sister, Miriam (the late
Herbert) Larkin; sister-in-law, Joan (Frank) Hoyt. She was predeceased
by husband, Clifford (1980); son, Lloyd (2009); brothers, Willard,
Ralph (Yvonne), Morrill, Lloyd; sisters, Bessie (Layton) Dodsworth and
Lora (Lewis) Wood; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry (Mary),
Robert (Phyllis), and Dollie (Ed) Archibald.
Millie’s family will receive friends from
6-8 p.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Old Barns United Church, 2603
Highway 236, Old Barns, and funeral service 2 p.m., Sunday, November
5, 2017, Reverend Dan Gunn officiating. Reception will follow in the
church hall. Family interment will be held in Fisher Creek Cemetery,
Green Oak. Donations in memory may be made to Old Barns United Church
or Fisher Creek Cemetery.
