Germaine Marie Martin – 68, Millbrook First Nation, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, November 6, 2017, at Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Ellen (Sylliboy) Googoo.

Germaine was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Millbrook. In earlier years, she worked at Abenaki Motel as a cook, at Micmac Arts & Crafts Society, several years with Millbrook Band as Community Health Representative and most recently as a medical driver. She was an avid basket maker and also made wooden flowers. She enjoyed playing Bingo and organized the Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré pilgrimage for Millbrook residents for several years.

Germaine is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Philip Joseph Martin; children, Sylvia Martin, Priscilla Martin (Tim Bernard), Philip Martin Jr. (Dawn Matheson), Matthew (Tara) Martin, Jay Martin, all of Millbrook; grandchildren, Aric, Todd, Trey, Jace, Madelyn, Jenae, Quinn, Katie, Hunter, Jorja, JT, Myla, Presley; great grandchildren, Aric Jr., Jenessa, Hazel; sisters, Anna (Francis) Pierro, Wagmatcook; Geraldine "Mulch" Paul, We’koqma’q; Matilda (Frank) Koopmann, Elmsdale; Barbara Googoo, New Hampshire; brothers, Bernie (Phyllis) Googoo, We’koqma’q; Henry Googoo, Cheticamp; several nieces, nephews and godchildren. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, William, Mary Bernard, Gabriel, Alexander, Ryan, Stanley, Donald, Wayne, Michael in childhood, Annie and Alice in infancy, paternal grandparents, Peter and Mary (Cope) Googoo, We’koqma’q; maternal grandparents, Grand Chief Gabriel and Harriet (Marshall) Sylliboy, Eskasoni.

Germaine’s family will receive friends after 4 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 2017, until funeral on Monday, at the family home 23 Julien Lane, Millbrook. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m., Monday, November 13, 2017, in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Church Road, Millbrook, Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Salite’ will follow in Millbrook Community Hall.
