He lived his early years in Franconia, Germany where he took a trade as a mechanic. His sense of adventure took him to Canada with a working Visa through Pier 21, Halifax in 1951. He started his long working career at a Gold Mine in Perron Quebec as a Millwright, where he met his wife of 65 years, Bette. His career in the construction industry started with Comstock International when he and Bette moved to Ontario in 1952, and then, on to Manitoba and Saskatchewan in 1955, where he continued working for Comstock , and soon became a regional Superintendent of the Western Division. He spoke often of his close friends and colleges that he met during this time, and stayed in touch with them through the years. In 1967 he moved to Nova Scotia, with his wife and 3 children, where they purchased a farm which he operated until 1983, while also working for Comstock starting in 1977 as a superintendent for the Eastern office. Construction & Manufacturing were his passion. Although work was his main Hobby, he had a great inquisitive mind for innovation and design, enjoyed traveling, and even took time for bass fishing in his later years.
