Romyn, John A.
"Jan", 94, of Truro,
passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at MacLeod House in
Hilden. Born January 29, 1923 in Rotterdam Holland, he was a son of
the late Henk and Marie (Bockelman) Romyn. John was a World War 2
veteran serving 1943-1947 in the Dutch Navy. After the war he went
back to school and studied the Hotel and Restaurant business. He then
joined the Merchant Navy and became an Assistant Chief Steward
1st Class with the Holland American Line. He
emigrated to Montreal and became a Canadian Citizen in 1958. From that
time till 1980 he had been employed with different companies in
management positions in Quebec, Ontario, Churchill Falls, Labrador and
here in Nova Scotia. He was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian
Legion Branch No. 26 Truro. John and his late wife Anna travelled for
many years to various countries around the world, enjoying every
moment of their travels. He is survived by sister, Riet (Gerrit) Van
Boven, Holland; brother-in-law, Bram Wind, Quebec. Predeceased by his
first wife the former Ethel (Power) Romyn; his second wife the former
Anna (Cuppens) Lamont; sisters, Rina Wind, Cor (Jan) Ebing; brother,
Bram. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. No visitation or funeral service
to be held. To be announced, a graveside service and interment will be
held at a later date in the Watson Cemetery Truro.
