Lionel Wayne Main – Bible Hill. With profound sadness but with gratitude for his life, Lionel’s family announces his passing at the age of 86 on Friday, January 19, 2018, in Truro. Born in East Noel, Hants County, he was the eldest child of the late Alworth and Hildred (Miller) Main.

Lionel is survived by his life partner, Joan (Barron) Main, Truro; daughter, Janet (John) Budreski, Vancouver, British Columbia; son, Jeffrey (Kristen) Main, Airdrie, Alberta. He was a proud grandfather to Andrew (Marli) Budreski, Mitchell Budreski, River Main, Noah Main, Chris Rutherford and Logan Rutherford and fondly remembered by his brother, Ronald Main; sister, Myrna (Malcolm) Morash; brothers-in-law, Blaine (Yvette) Barron, Brian Barron, Darrell (Carla) Barron, Ted Curry and the Curry family; nieces and nephews, Sherri (Paul Elder), Cairine (Blair) Morrison, Craig Morash, Mark (Dallas) Morash and their families. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Roland and Minnie Barron; sisters-in-law, Eileen Main, Claire Curry, Dana Barron; niece, Lisa Barron; grand-nephew, Adam Curry; maternal grandparents, Creighton and Elsie Miller; paternal grandparents, Seymour and Annie Main; many of his close friends.

Lionel’s extensive work experience in the auto industry as well as summer school, evening classes and several summers at the Institute of Technology in NB earned him a Vocational Teachers Class 1 and the position of Vice Principal at Truro Vocational School and head teacher at Springhill Vocational School. Volunteer work in the Truro area and community included over forty years in St. David’s United Church choir, men’s club, trustee, cemetery committee and 54 years in the Bible Hill Fire Brigade where his love of mechanics served him well in the role of Captain of Equipment for many of those years. He was well known for his sense of humor, quick wit, love of music and generosity to friends and community. A special thank you is extended to our family, friends and neighbours for their support during his illness and at this time of our bereavement.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Bible Hill Fire Brigade will conduct a Firefighter's Tribute Service at 5:30 p.m, Tuesday, January 23, 2018, followed by visitation from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2018, also at the funeral home. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at St. David’s United Church, 18 St. David’s Avenue (corner of St. David’s Avenue and Pictou Road), Bible Hill, Reverend Donna Lawrence officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Spring interment in Bible Hill Cemetery.
