John Berton Archibald "Archie"
Killawee – 78, Truro,
passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday,
April 4, 2018, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in
Truro, he was a son of the late John William and Edith Wilhelmina
(Archibald) Killawee.
Archie was a well-respected teacher of mathematics at several
high schools throughout the province, eventually finding his home at
Nova Scotia Teacher’s College, where he taught for over 20
years. He had a love for teaching and for mathematics that he
continued to enjoy long past the end of his career. He was also an
avid amateur genealogist and could spend hours digging into family
history. Archie was an unassuming man of quiet wisdom and a strong
moral code; he had a huge impact on so many people who passed through
his life. Although he suffered from poor health for many years, he
seldom complained and always thought first of others; he was
well-loved and will be sadly missed.
Archie is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Janet
(Walker); children, Robert (Jacqueline), Karen (Allan), John
(Patricia); honourary son, Robert Daly; grandchildren, Luke and Kate
Henley, Samuel and Sophie Killawee; brothers, Thomas (Elinor), Philip
(Grace), Paul; nephews and niece, David, Suzanne, Andrew, Matthew,
Jacob, Stephane. For the last 16 years, his grandchildren have been
the light of his life. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by
his older brother, Charles David Killawee; numerous aunts and
uncles.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Archie’s
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, April 8, 2018, and
