Munro, John William Burris, 89, of North River and, formerly
of Upper Kemptown, died peacefully on June
17th, 2018, at the Colchester East Hants Health
Centre in Truro. Born in Upper Kemptown on October
1st, 1928, he was the youngest son of the late
George Richard and Margaret Winifred (McLeary) Munro.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Reta (Roy) Munro, a
daughter Linda (Jim) Smith and eight sons Larry (Carol), Gerry
(Darlene), Rick (Denise), Dale (Janette), Greg, Tim (Donna), Alex
(Tara) and Joe (Tracy), 17 grandchildren and 9 great
grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his
immediate family and, he leaves behind one sister in-law, Joan Munro
of Thorburn, and several nieces & nephews.
John was predeceased by one grandson, Ian Brooks
Haggerty.
John worked on the family farm in Upper Kemptown, drove for
Halliday Craftsmen, worked for Truro Wholesalers, drove truck for
Irving Oil, Texaco Gas Bulk plant, and retired after nineteen years
from Nova Scotia Teachers College as a Custodian. He loved,
and was respected by the students, his customers and people in
general. He had a musical ear and was self-taught, he sang,
played the fiddle, harmonica and guitar. He loved to dance,
play bingo, go to the mall, supported the boys in harness racing and,
Linda & the boys in sports. A special thank you to

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall~Varner Funeral
Home, 55 Young Street, where visitation will take place Thursday, June
21st, at 2pm with a celebration of life at
3:30pm and, a reception to follow in the funeral home.
Burial will take place following the reception at Crossroads Cemetery,
Valley. Family flowers only. Donations in memory
may be made to the VON or the Alzheimer’s Society.
