Theodora Maria "Thea" Vissers – 94, of East Stewiacke, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Grave, Holland she was a daughter of the late Arnoldus and Maria (Bosch) Teunissen and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Thea and her husband lived in many places in the world and finally settled in East Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, where they lived for the last 50 years. Avid travelers, they enjoyed many trips to different places, but especially enjoyed Florida. Thea was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother and was affectionately known as Oma to the family. She loved gardening and cooking for her family; the more people she could cook for, the happier she was and there was always room at the table for anyone who might stop in.
Thea is survived by her daughters, Mary (Leo) Harbers; Thea (Robert) Toole; Ann (Bruce) Mowatt; Kathy (Roger) Cox; sons, Jack (Beverley); Arnold (Theresa); Peter (Anja); John (Nancy); Ronald (Victoria); many grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lambertus Christianus "Bert" Vissers; son, Bert Jr.; grandson, Derek; sisters, Lies and Katie "Toos"; brothers, Hank and Piet; son-in-law, Murray.
Special thanks are extended to Ann Surette, Mom’s caregiver for the past four years and the doctors and nurses at Colchester East Hants Health Centre for their care over the past few days.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where a private family funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2018, Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. Reception will follow. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery, East Stewiacke. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pine Grove Cemetery or a charity of choice.
