Collins, Elizabeth Jean (Dearmond), 94 years of Beaver Brook,
passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 in the Colchester East Hants
Health Centre, Truro. Born Oct. 16, 1924 in Truro, she was the fourth
of eight children of the late Lyman and Edith (Stevens)
Dearmond.
Elizabeth was married to Elmer Rufus Collins for 57yrs before
his passing. They had four children, Delmar Lyman Collins (deceased),
Edith Laverne (Hank) McGann, Walter Lloyd Collins (Elizabeth), and
Merle Seymour Collins (Carol). Later she settled on a farm in
Princeport. At the age of 31, she returned to studies and received a
Bachelor of Education, taught school in Halifax County and was a
principal there before returning to Colchester County to teach. Upon
retirement, she continued with her passion for knitting and crochet,
her last project being 138 pair of mittens and nine Christmas socks
completed just two weeks ago. She was also a supporter of the church
suppers, often baking pies for them, the last one she provided 106
coconut cream. She had a passion for old country music and dancing and
loved Christmas music and the Christmas season. Her greatest pleasure
was helping children learn and knitting mittens for
them.
She is survived by her sister, Doris McCallum; grandchildren,
Kathy, Sue, Jennifer, Stephen, Jeffery, Mark; great-grandchildren,
Sasha, Gabe, Emily, Kendra, Alicia, Mikayla, Kathleen, Calib;
great-great-grandchildren, Cali, Declan; step-great-grandson Stephen
Cluett.
She was predeceased by siblings, Margaret, Edna, Willis,
Helen, Walter, Shirley.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall~Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, from where visitation will be
Friday from 7-9 pm. Funeral service will take place
on Saturday at 11 am in the Old Barns United Church,
2603, Hwy 236, Old Barns. Reverend David LeBlanc will officiate a
reception will follow. Burial will take place in the Old Barns
Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the heart and Stroke
Foundation or to the Palliative Care Unit of CEHHC, Truro. Private
