Gwendolyn Maxine "Gwen" Rushton – 73, Lower Truro Road, Truro, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord, on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Erma (Murray) Rushton.
After graduation, Gwen had successful careers at Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Colchester Christian Academy and conducting services, activities and entertainment at seniors care homes in the Truro area, in addition to providing senior care for her own parents prior to their passing. Gwen was a member of The Peoples Church, Truro, and spent many years as a Sunday school teacher there. She loved the outdoors and spending special time with her family and friends either walking the beach, taking a leisurely afternoon drive or campfires at the lake.
Gwen is survived by her sister, Martena (Wendell) Hendsbee, Truro; brother, Brian (Kathryn) Rushton, North Vancouver; niece and nephews, Amy (Chris) Dail, Craig (Allison Bannard) Rushton, Gerred Rushton, Adam (Jaclynn Holmes) Rushton; great-nieces and nephews, Peter, Jasper, Ruby and Ivy Dail; Sophia Rushton; special long-time friend, Leona Mingo, Truro, and of course, Gwen’s fluffy feline companion, Primrose. The family would like to express special thanks to the ICU and Palliative Care Units at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, VON nurses, Gwen’s private care providers and all other health care workers.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Gwen’s family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Monday, October 7, 2019, and funeral service 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 8, 2019, Pastor Ken Fillmore officiating, assisted by Pastor Steve Adams and Pastor Doug Campbell. Reception will follow. Interment will then follow in Eagle Hill Cemetery, Westchester Station. Family flowers only, please. Donations in Gwen’s memory may he made to The Gideons International in Canada, Colchester Christian Academy or to a charity of your choice.
