Jenneke Cornelia "Jane" Van Rooyen – 93, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday afternoon, October 14, 2019, at East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Eislestein, Holland, she was a daughter of the late Jurrianes and Aaltje (Van Engelenhoven) Peelen.

Jane was a member of First United Church, Truro. An accomplished seamstress, she worked at Don Schelew Dry Cleaners in Dartmouth, Tip Top Taylors in Truro and then owned her own business out of her home. She and her husband owned and operated Edgemere Cabins in Fall River from 1979 – 1990. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, knitting and playing cards. Mom was a very strong lady with a determined will to go on and she led us all by her example.

Jane is survived by her sons, Jack (Kit) Van Rooyen, Hampton, New Brunswick; Jerry (Claire) Van Rooyen, Antigonish; daughters, Ann (Larry) MacCormack, East Mountain; Trudy Van Rooyen, Dartmouth; Aileen Van Rooyen, Halifax; Judy Van Rooyen, Sackville, New Brunswick; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dirk "Dick"; sister, Ali Spelt.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Jane’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2019. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at First United Church, 711 Prince Street, Truro, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Reception will follow in Memorial Hall. Interment in Robie Street Cemetery, 125 Robie Street, Truro. If so desired, donations in Jane’s memory to East Cumberland Lodge (Recreation Department) are welcomed.
