Ward Dexter Brown – 60, Kemptown. It is
with great sadness that we announce Ward’s passing on
Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at his home in Kemptown. Born in
Kemptown, he was the youngest son of the late Harry and Myrtle
(Perrin) Brown.
Ward grew up surrounded by a large, loving family with two
brothers, Olan (Carol) and Leo (Wendy) and five sisters, Lola (Roy),
Elda (Ritchie), Florence (Roy), Dorothy (Paul) and Ruth (Ron) and many
nieces and nephews.
It’s not the years in your life, it’s the
LIFE in your years and Ward lived a great life. He was up for
anything, any adventure that might come his way. He excelled at
anything he put his mind to, be it shooting, fishing, racing,
baseball, darts, pool or cards. He was always present at any family
gathering or community party. With his generous soul and humorous
heart, he was quick to tell a joke or a story; he was one of the
wittiest people you would meet.
Ward did not have any children of his own, but all the kids
loved him; he would tease and torment but the kids always came back
for more. Ward had the voice of an angel and loved to sing; you would
hear him singing or whistling a tune and it would brighten your day.
He was a welder by trade and worked for many years at
MacKay’s Trucking. Ward had a soft spot in his heart for
animals of any sort and would always greet your pets first. One of the
things that brought him true joy was beating you at cards and he
rarely missed a poker night at Owie’s. He touched so many
people’s lives and he will be dearly missed by all who knew
him; how can you ever forget someone who gave you so much to remember?
He was predeceased by his father, Harry; mother, Myrtle; sisters,
Florence and Lola; brother, Leo.
A celebration of Ward’s life will be held from 2-8
p.m., Sunday, November 24, 2019, at Kemptown Community Centre; light
refreshments will be served. Please come out and share a good story
and sing a song to celebrate a happy soul. Arrangements have been
entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young
Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the
family by viewing Ward’s obituary on-line and selecting
