Jack Francis Fielding – 91, Truro. It is with great sadness the family of Jack Francis Fielding announce his passing on Monday, November 11, 2019, at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Truro, he was the son of the late Eugene and Ethel (Crowe) Fielding.

Jack loved his family and loved making people laugh; he was the family jokester. He was a Korean War veteran who served from 1952-1956 with North Nova Scotia Highlanders. He was proud of his service time in the military and of being a member of Royal Canadian Legion for over 30 years, where he also served on the Executive Committee for six years. He wore his legion hat and coat for almost every outing and occasion. He always attended Remembrance Day services even when his health prevented him from participating.

He enjoyed baking (The best English biscuits!), cooking, hunting and the travelling he did as a transport driver. He loved his Thursday outings for Fielding day when all his brothers and sisters would get together at the Truro mall for coffee. He had an especially close relationship with his sister, Sheila, and you could see their deep love for each other whenever they were together.

Mourning his passing are his sons, John, Thailand; Gerry, Edmonton, Alberta; Roger (Shamira), Florida; Todd (Patti), Westlock, Alberta; grandchildren, Kevin, Stacey, Carlyn, Luke, Sannya, Shane, Misty, Monike, Sean, Michael, David, Matthew, Dallas, Jocelynn, Mark, Padraig; several great grandchildren; sister, Julie Blackmore; special niece, Tammy Longard (Ryan); several other nieces and nephews; in-laws, Kelly Callaghan, Jim Waller, Louise Fielding, Jim and Blanche Cook, Basil Oickle. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Frances Brodziak; grandson, Ricky Kellogg; brothers, Sherman, Fred, Russell, Gerald in infancy; sisters, Reta Rice, Barbara Atkinson, Hazel Delaney, Marilyn Waller, Sheila Callaghan.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Jack’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Friday, November 15, 2019; Legion Tribute service 5:30 p.m., Friday, November 15, 2019 at the funeral home and visitation from 12-1:45 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2019, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 16, 2019, also at the funeral home, The Reverend Lori Ramsey officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment will be held at Onslow Island Cemetery, Central Onslow. Flowers welcome or donations in Jack’s memory to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro (Building Fund or Poppy Fund) would be appreciated by the family.
