White: Bertha Esther (Ripley), Valley, Colchester Co., 93, passed away
Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in
Belmont, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Cora Ethel
(Baird) Ripley. Bertha was a resident of Valley for over 56 years. She
was a member of the Valley United Church Women and a life member of
the Mayflower Unit of Valley UCW. Bertha also served as a church elder
and Clerk of Session for a number of years for the Coldstream Pastoral
Charge. Bertha had retired from Stanfield’s after 10 years of
service to spend time with her husband Charlie. She also worked as a
logging camp cook for various people, and at the Eastern Hat & Cap
Factory. She was also an avid member of two senior bowling leagues for
many years and always looked forward to her times and the fellowship
there. Bertha is survived by sons, Everett (Della), Valley; Ainslie
(Ellie Folland), Eaglesham, AB; daughters, Frances White, Valley;
Carol (Gary) Karlowski, Payson, Arizona; sisters, Sybil MacLennan,
Baddeck; Ethel McNutt, Valley; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband
Charles A.F. White; son, Rayburn; daughters, Esther Fox, Stella and
infant daughter; sisters, Laura Henderson, Gwyneth Ripley, Jen Boomer
all of Truro; brothers, Watson, Everett, Norval, Ainslie (Bill).
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 Saturday, June 27, in the
Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Funeral
service will be held 2pm Sunday, June 28, in the Valley United Church,
Rev. Brian DeLong officiating with a reception to follow in the church
basement. Interment will then be held in the Watson Cemetery Truro. No
scents please. Family flowers only. Donation’s in Bertha’s
memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia
