Horton, Mabel Lillian MacPherson (nee Gosbee). It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing surrounded by her family at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, on Wednesday, April 18, 2012. Born in Roachvale on July 2, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Laurella (Hensbee) Gosbee.

After graduating high school, Mabel was a teacher in the one room school house, Marie Joseph, Guysborough, for a number of years. She enjoyed teaching and often spoke of her time as a teacher and her love of the children she taught. Mabel worked for Dominion Stores, both in Truro and Scarborough, Ontario. During her employment with Dominion she was quickly promoted to Head Cashier with several employees under her supervision. Mabel was a good worker and enjoyed providing customer service and teaching those whom she supervised, a good work ethic.

Mabel married Edwin MacPherson on May 19, 1950, and had three children, Connie, Betty and Jim. Mabel and Ed spent time together crafting and teaching ceramics. Of the beautiful pieces they made, many are being enjoyed today by family and friends. Mabel also loved quilting and knitting especially when they were treasures she made for her grandchildren or great-grandchildren. One of the things Mabel enjoyed most was having company and preparing a good meal for her guests. Many of their guests were missionaries on home-furlough, or traveling evangelists. Mabel and Ed served as counselors at Billy Graham Crusades and were Charter Members of the Milliken Wesleyan Church in Agincourt, Ontario. Ed died in June 1984.

Mabel married Ralph Horton, July 17, 1987 and moved to Roachvale, NS. Mabel and Ralph were members of the Guysborough Baptist Church where Mabel served in the Ladies Aide and continued her quilting, knitting and especially entertaining visitors. Mabel and Ralph were always ready for a lively game of Skip-boo together, or with visitors. Ralph died October 2010.

Mabel’s life will continue to be a celebration of her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through the godly heritage she leaves to those she knew and loved. May the Lord bless the memory of Mabel MacPherson Horton.

Mabel is predeceased by her parents; brothers, Pete, Ralph; sisters, Marion and Martha, husband, Edwin MacPherson in 1984; husband, Ralph Horton in 2010. Mabel is survived by her daughters, Rev. Connie (Duane) Stewart, Truro; Rev. Betty (Ron) Johnson, Minnesota; only son Jim (Theresa) MacPherson, Truro; grandchildren, Chris Tilley (Sherry Hunt), Anne (Dwayne) MacCallum, James (Jaclyn) MacPherson, Carrie (Jamie) MacKinnon and Joseph MacPherson. Great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Dylan, Jayden MacCallum and Seth MacPherson, all of Truro.
