Roy Leon Dunlap - 61, East Mountain, passed away peacefully,
surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, April 30, 2012, after a
courageous battle with cancer. Born in Newton Mills, he was a son of
Ethel (Bezanson) Dunlap, Saltsprings, Pictou County, and the late
George Dunlap.
Roy was self-employed with Contrast Cleaning for 35 years and R.L. Dunlap Auto Sales for the past six years. Roy never missed his Saturday night date with Lola. He enjoyed golfing with family and friends, playing his guitar, writing songs and recording his CDs. Another favorite activity was playing crib with his son, Adrian. Roy was also a member of the Truro Kinsmen Club for 10 years and served as President and Executive for many of those years.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 41 years, Lola (Lynds); his only daughter, Jane Crossman, Bible Hill; sons, Andrew (Renee), Valley; Jon (Danielle), Quispamsis, New Brunswick; Adrian, Halifax, son-in… law, Jason Crossman, Debert; only granddaughter, Madison Crossman; grandsons, Carsten, Jesse and Kolby Dunlap. He is also survived by his sisters, Thelma Dunlap, Donna Gillis (Charlie), Juanita Albert (Mario), Kathy Dunlap, Eunice Dunlap; brothers, Herman (Irene), Bernie (Sue), Freeman (Denise), Larry; many nieces and nephews. Along with his father, he was predeceased by his grandson, Hayden Dunlap; brother, Ronald; sisters, Ruby and Helen; brother-in-law, Robert McCoul; nephews, Leroy, Rodney, Randy and Troy. The family would like to give special thanks to all the doctors, Palliative Care, VON and Hematology Unit for their kind support.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Roy’s family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2012, and where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, May 3, 2012. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Upper Stewiacke. If so desired, donations in Roy’s memory to Canadian Cancer Society are welcomed.
