Dickie, Vera Mary 80 – Truro, and formerly of Old Barns, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 in the Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late John "Jack" and Mary (Brown) Ferguson. Vera was a member of the Old Barns Progressive Club. Mom and Dad owned and operated Fortview Farms in Old Barns most of their lives with Dad in the barn and Mom in the house.

She is survived by daughters, Debbie Masters (Bill), Old Barns; Gayle Randle (Rick), Truro; Carlene Dickie (David Stephens), Halifax; sons, John (Darlene), Bible Hill; George (Susan), Old Barns; grandchildren, Scott Masters (Teri-Lynn), Steven Masters, Brian Masters (Angela), Monica Thompson (Cory), Mary Randle (Matthew Aiken), Anne-Marie Taylor (Andrew), Nathan Dickie (Emily Shupe), Joey Sisco (Melanie Tufts), Melissa Harrison (Adam), Lucas Dickie (Lisa), Erica Lane(Josh); 13 great-grandchildren; sister Elspie Caterer (Charlie) of Enfield.

Besides her parents, Vera was predeceased by her husband Carl; brother Arleigh Ferguson; sister Olive Hall.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 6-9 pm and where funeral service will take place on Thursday at 2 pm, all in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Rev. Ian Harrison will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Old Barns Cemetery, Old Barns. Family flowers only. Donations in Vera’s memory may be made to The Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation, the V.O.N. or to a charity of choice.
