Rhindress, Margarette, "Margie",
89, Truro, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in Vimy Court- Shannex,
Bible Hill. Born in Turtle Creek, NB on July 15, 1924 she was the
second youngest child of eight children of the late Timothy and Bessie
(Tingley) Murray. Margie moved to Truro in 1953 and operated Alice
Street Grocery for 19 years. After retiring from the store Margie
enjoyed travelling, gardening, being with family and friends and
volunteering. Margie was a member of St. Andrew’s United
Church and a member of their UCW and Outreach Committee. For many
years Margie was an active volunteer with Lioness, Big
Brothers/Sisters, the Truro Food Bank, Wynn Park Residents Association
and she was an original founding member of DCSC, holding executive
offices for many years and worked countless hours volunteering at
Bingo nights and all fund raisers. In 1986 Margie received the Zonta
Recognition Award for "dedicated service and personal achievement
whose efforts have improved the quality of life in Colchester County
and encouraged positive attitude toward
women."
She is survived by brother Paul (Ruth),
sister Lucinda Donaldson, sister in law Lillian Murray (Johnny),
special Goddaughter Shannon MacPhee, long-time friend Henrietta
(Hennie) Fowler, step daughter Jane Rhindress, four step
granddaughters, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews
and their families.
She was predeceased by husband LeRoy (1974),
brothers Chuck and Johnny, sisters Grace Dempsey, Greta Dryden, and
Ina Milburne.
Arrangements are under the direction of
Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro from where
visitation will take place on Saturday from 1 pm until funeral service
time at 2 pm. Rev. Jay Ettinger will officiate with a reception to
follow in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Wallace Bay
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to St.
Andrew’s, DCSC or a charity of choice.A special thank you to
the staff at Shannex Vimy Court and also a
special thank you to VON Homecare and Dr. D. Blair whose
care enabled her to stay in her own home for so
long.
