Helen I.
MacLachlan - Age 95, Great
Village, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2014, in Colchester
East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Mom's wish to remain in her own home
for her lifetime was fulfilled. She was born on Brackley Point Road,
PEI, and was the daughter of the late Stanley and Vinnie (Trowsdale)
Prowse.
Mom trained in nursing at the
Women’s General Hospital (Reddy Memorial) in Montreal before
returning to Great Village to marry Dad. Family was central
to her life and she also had many friends who were very dear to her.
She took pleasure meeting people as she worked in
MacLachlan’s General Store with Dad and was a devoted member
and volunteer at St. James United Church where she sang in the choir
and participated in UCW and many committees.
Mom was a founding member of Great Village
Garden Club and she enjoyed her involvement in Historical Society and
other community organizations over the years. Mom took an active
interest in current affairs and was an avid listener to CBC radio. She
was a woman of wise and independent mind and she was always keen to
share her opinions. Mom and Dad retired in 1981 and enjoyed many years
of travel, but Mom’s favourite place to vacation was her
beloved PEI, where days on the beach in Brackley brought her great
joy.
Survived by her daughters, Sandra (Barbara),
Jane (Robert) and son, Robin (Lynn); grandchildren, Andrew (Laura) and
Annette Heffernan; Amy (Jason) Muis; Matthew (Erin), Michaela, Marilee
and Lucas (Mima) MacLachlan; four great grandchildren; many nieces and
nephews; brother, Lloyd (Ruth) Prowse, Lively, Ontario, sister-in-law,
