Charles Woodrow McKenna – 97, Truro, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2014, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born September 11, 1916, in Milford, he was a son of the late Nathaniel and Annie (Marriott) McKenna.

Charles was a  Supervisor at Nova Scotia Training Centre for 30 years and also did upholstery work from his brother’s home for many years . He was a veteran of the Second World War and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. In younger years, Charles played baseball and hockey. He also loved to fish on Stewiacke River in Middle Stewiacke and fish, hunt and spend time at the camp in Kemptown.

Charles is survived by his sons, Roy (Sherry) McKenna, Bedford; Wayne McKenna (Judy), Onslow; Floyd McKenna, McCallum Settlement; Bill (Jane) Truffa, New York; grandchildren, Jennifer McKenna, John McKenna, Andrew McKenna, Shannon Downey, Francis Downey, Christine (John) Duhs; Jennifer McKenna, David McKenna, Danny McKenna; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Hilda Gertrude (Creelman); grandson, Billy Truffa; sisters, Muriel Reid, Lottie Logan and one in infancy; brothers, Aubrey McKenna, Purdy McKenna. Special thanks are extended to "Charlie’s Angels" for their excellent care that allowed Dad to remain at home right until the end.

All are welcome to attend a graveside interment service that will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014, in Bible Hill Cemetery, Warren Drive, Bible Hill, Reverend John Parsons officiating. If so desired, donations in Charles’ memory to Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro (Building Fund) are welcomed.
