Clarissa Mary "Chris" (Hunt)
Richards –
85, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at
The Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro. Born August 21, 1929, in
Greenfield, Colchester County, she was a daughter of the late James
and Elva (Brown) Hunt.
Chris was a past member of the United States
Trotting Association and in earlier years, was a member of the ladies
baseball team, playing for Lewis Rangers. She loved to watch the
Toronto Blue Jays, horse racing and worked at Truro Raceway, where she
was Clerk of Course for a number of years. She also worked at Simpsons
Sears, Vernon & Co. and Ken Lewis Travel Agency. While working
for Mr. Vernon at Vernon & Co., she learned about draperies
and material and had her own small business, Hillcrest Fabrics, making
draperies and slip covers. Due to ill health of her parents, she gave
this up and looked after their needs.
Clarissa was a member of St.
David’s United Church, life time member of United Church
Women, and member of Hannah Unit which she enjoyed very much. She was
also a member of St. David’s Quilting Group and liked to do
other crafts over the years.
Chris was the last surviving member of her
immediate family and is survived by her husband of 62 years, Patrick
"Pat"; daughter, Charlene (Todd) Tattrie, Onslow Mountain;
grandson, Adam Tattrie, who she loved dearly, Onslow Mountain; several
in-laws and close friends. Along with her parents, she was predeceased
by her sisters, Margaret "Daisy" Sutherland, Elva
"Toots" Kennedy. Special thanks are extended to the staff of
The Mira for their excellent care and "special extras", as
well as to Dr. Michael Murray and Dr. Harold Berghuis.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall
– Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where
Clarissa's family will receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m., Thursday,
August 28, 2014, followed by the funeral service at 2
p.m., Reverend Donna Lawrence officiating. Reception will
follow. Interment in Bible Hill Cemetery, Warren Drive, Bible Hill.
