Mahar, Verna Deloras, 89, of Truro, passed away peacefully on
Saturday morning, September 20, 2014, surrounded by family at the
Colchester East Hants Health Centre Truro. Born in Truro, she was a
daughter of the late Laughlan Douglas and Jean Esther (Frizzell)
MacMillan. Verna was a former employee of Stanfield’s
Limited Truro where she was a folder. She loved reading and
socializing with her friends over a cup of tea, discussing the events
of the day. She is survived by daughters, Cherlyn (Robert) Andrews,
Ottawa; Verna (Neil) MacQuarrie, Lorne, Pictou County; sons, Gary
(Diane), North Bay, ON; Allan and his late wife Linda, Brian (Joan)
and Phillip, Halifax; Robert (Susan), Bible Hill; Blaine (Eileen),
Whitby, ON; Paul (Carolin), Sydney; 23 grandchildren, 35 great
grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and
nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Reginald; sisters, Aggie
and Shirley; brothers, Roddy, Stu and Tommy. No visitation by request.
A graveside service and interment will be held 11 am Tuesday,
September 23, in the Robie Street Cemetery Truro, with The Reverend
Lori Ramsey officiating. Verna’s family would like to extend
their sincere thanks to Dr.’s Bower, Cook and Henderson.
Also to the nursing staff of the Surgical Ward and the Palliative Care
Team at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Truro. A reception
will then follow in St. John the Evangelist Church Hall, 23 Church
Street Truro. Family flowers only. Donations in Verna’s
memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Arrangements
